251 Renewal of Rabbi Meir Baal Haness Tomb in Tiberias, 1988, model for redesigning the tomb from Mitzpe Ramon stone and colored marble; Right: The entrance to the tomb compound and the tomb stones in working process Early in 1988 architect Arie Rahamimov asked me to redesign the tomb. My proposal is an encirclement of prayer niches intended to hide the tomb, originally built during the Ottoman period, and allowing an intimacy between the disciples and the revered. The tomb design also addressed the pier on the wall above it, rumored to be the original tomb of Rabbi Meir, who was buried standing. Folk tales attest to the mystical healing and salvation powers of the site.
